All eyes will be on the iconic duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli when India take on Australia in the 3-match ODI series, starting this Sunday. Both the stalwarts have retired from T20Is and Tests, only to focus on one format – ODIs. But besides their much-awaited comeback, another factor that has been garnering attention is Rohit Sharma’s fitness.
Rohit Sharma’s recent public appearances have set social media abuzz, with fans amazed by his remarkable transformation. A viral “before and after” photo — comparing his latest Team India photoshoot to his look during the 2025 Champions Trophy — highlights his impressive physical change. The former skipper now appears noticeably fitter and fully charged to take on Australia.
Ahead of the first ODI, Abhishek Nayar revealed why Rohit decided to go for the transformation. Speaking on Star Sports, the former India batter said that Rohit didn’t like the trolling he received for his bodyweight after he was snapped by the paparazzi as he made his way out of the Mumbai airport recently.
“Initially, we sort of realised that there were 12 weeks before this Australia series. The thought process was to do something different. Since we had time on our hands, it was not about maintaining but about growth. Growth in regards to his physical structure, growth in regards to his movements. How he viewed himself, how he looked in the mirror and being in a place where he felt fitter and felt like he could move faster and swiftly on the field, even with the bat,” said Nayar on Star Sports.
“That was the thought process. 12 weeks were about making a difference when people viewed them. There was a lot of talk about him putting on weight and a few images of him coming out of the airport, so it was about changing all of that. In a lot of ways to be healthier, faster and fitter, and that’s where the journey started,” he added.
