Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages IPO: Coca-Cola is considering launching a $1-billion IPO of its Indian bottling unit, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt Ltd (HCCB), Bloomberg has reported citing people familiar with the matter. It said the global giant has met with bankers in recent weeks to discuss the possible IPO of the local arm.
“It’s still early in the process and the company hasn’t hired bankers for the deal yet,” the report cited the people as saying.
The IPO might occur next year if it goes ahead, as per Bloomberg.
The discussions are ongoing, and key details such as the timing, structure, and size of the offering may still evolve, the report added. Coca-Cola has so far not commented on the development.
If the IPO materialises, the move would also mark Coca-Cola’s entry into a growing trend of global companies listing their Indian subsidiaries, following the footsteps of LG Electronics Inc., which raised $1.3 billion through its IPO earlier this month, and Hyundai Motor Co., which made a record-breaking $3.3 billion debut last year.
Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages, headquartered in Bengaluru, serves over 2 million retailers and employs more than 5,200 people, according to company data. The bottling arm operates 14 manufacturing facilities across 12 states and 236 districts in southern and western India.
Recently, Coca-Cola also sold a minority stake in Hindustan Coca-Cola Holdings Pvt Ltd, the parent company of HCCB, to Jubilant Bhartia Group, a diversified conglomerate with interests in food services, pharmaceuticals, and automobile distribution.
