Pakistan medium-pacer Diana Baig has said that Muneeba Ali’s run-out issue has been resolved and there is nothing more to discuss about it, after the latter’s dismissal sparked a lot of confusion on the field as well as online with players and fans wondering alike why she was deemed out.
Diana confirmed that the problem has been resolved and there is no need to ‘discuss it any further’. The flashpoint came on the final ball of the fourth over, when Muneeba was ruled out by third umpire Kerrin Klaaste, a decision that left the Pakistan camp agitated.
Muneeba was declared out despite appearing to have grounded her bat before the ball struck the stumps. The incident began when a ball from Kranti Goud hit her pads, prompting a not-out call from the on-field umpire.
As Muneeba, who had stepped out of her crease, returned to ground her bat, she lifted it just as Deepti Sharma’s throw hit the stumps. After a loud appeal and several replays, the third umpire ruled her out.
The sequence of events left the Pakistan camp puzzled, as replays showed Muneeba grounding her bat before lifting it again. Captain Fatima Sana was seen engaged in a prolonged discussion with fourth umpire Kim Cotton while Muneeba waited near the boundary line to walk off.
However, Muneeba had to walk off, with the umpires standing firm on their decision. The Pakistan coaches watched in disbelief amidst visible frustration and finger-pointing, while the Indian camp, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, appeared calm and composed.
“Muneeba was run out and the captain also raised some concerns regarding that incident. Has the management made any decision on this matter? Any comment on Muneeba’s run out?” a reporter questioned Diana at the post-match press conference.
“Muneeba’s run-out issue has already been settled, I believe. I don’t want to talk much about it now. Whatever happened and whatever the situation was, I think it has been resolved,” Diana replied.
