Persistent rain led to the abandonment of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 match between Sri Lanka and Australia at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo on Saturday.

The weather was so disruptive that the toss couldn’t even take place, as heavy showers hit multiple parts of the city. With no improvement in conditions over the next few hours, both teams had to call off the match, sharing one point each.

ICC Women’s World Cup 2025: Australia Vs Sri Lanka – Highlights

The washout means Australia continue to lead the points table, sitting on three points from two games, having started their campaign with a commanding 89-run victory over New Zealand. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, remain in fifth place with one point from two outings. For the hosts, the result offers some relief, especially after their opening loss to co-host India, where they were defeated by 59 runs under the DLS method. The Lankans are still seeking their first ODI win against Australia in World Cup history, making this rain-affected match a missed opportunity.

Looking ahead, both teams now focus on their next fixtures. Australia will stay in Colombo to face Pakistan on October 8 before travelling to Visakhapatnam to take on India on October 12. Sri Lanka, after a 10-day gap, will return to action against England on October 11.

India Vs Pakistan Next

Meanwhile, Colombo is set to host the highly anticipated clash between India and Pakistan on Sunday, although weather forecasts indicate scattered showers and almost full cloud cover, potentially impacting that match as well.

Australia arrived in Colombo in excellent form, buoyed by their opening win against New Zealand, while Sri Lanka struggled in Guwahati against India. Despite the disappointment of the abandoned match, the shared point keeps both teams in contention in the early stages of the tournament.
