Perplexity AI has made its Comet browser freely available to all users, eliminating the previous $200-per-month (around Rs 17,000) paywall that restricted access to its advanced features. The announcement was made by CEO Aravind Srinivas on X (formerly Twitter) on October 2, where he also took a playful dig at Google Chrome.

Resharing a post from one X user, he wrote, “O hey hi @googlechrome.”

Until now, Comet was available exclusively to Pro and Max subscribers, meaning free users were unable to access its AI-powered tools and some of its most advanced features. With the recent change, however, anyone can download the browser and explore its full range of capabilities.

Srinivas confirmed this in another post, writing, “Comet is now generally available to download for everyone (free, Pro and Max users)!”

The move opens up Comet’s AI tools to a much larger audience, giving people a new option beyond traditional browsers.

Perplexity Adds Premium News Plan

On the same day, Srinivas also introduced Comet Plus, a subscription plan offering both humans and AI systems access to premium news content. Several major media companies have come on board as launch partners, including The Washington Post, CNN, Conde Nast titles such as The New Yorker, Wired, and Vogue, Fortune and Le Monde.

For existing Perplexity Pro and Max subscribers, Comet Plus will be included at no additional cost. The plan enables users to read and engage with high-quality content while taking advantage of Comet’s integrated AI tools.

Comet Browser Offers AI Tools On Every Page

Comet features an AI sidebar (Alt + A) that remains docked on any webpage. This assistant can simplify complex articles, break down information, interpret images, and link content across multiple tabs for easy comparison. It is also capable of performing tasks such as drafting emails, scheduling meetings, completing purchases, filling out forms, and even navigating websites automatically.

For quick summaries, the browser includes a one-click summarisation tool (Alt + S), which can condense long articles, video transcripts, PDF documents, or social media posts.

Additionally, users can switch to voice mode (Shift + Alt + V) to operate the browser entirely through spoken commands, whether for searching, switching tabs, or browsing without using a keyboard.
