Zimbabwe made it to their 7th T20 World Cup after defeating Kenya in the semi-finals of the Africa qualifiers on Thursday. A quickfire 51 from opener Brian Bennett set up Zimbabwe for a seven-wicket victory in Harare. Apart from confirming a trip to India for his team next year, Bennet also scripted a new chapter in the history of T20Is.

Zimbabwe, chasing 123 against Kenya, witnessed history when 21-year-old Bennet became the first batter in T20 Internationals to hit six boundaries in a single over. He tore into Kenyan left-arm pacer Lucas Ndandason, smashing six consecutive fours to light up the chase.

Earlier, Kenya won the toss and opted to bat, but their 122-6 total was never likely to suffice. Rakep Patel, who came in after openers Pushkar Sharma (11) and Dhiren Gondaria (1) fell cheaply, top-scored with 65 from 47 balls.

Bennett wasted no time putting Zimbabwe on the path to qualification, averaging two runs off each delivery in a knock that included two sixes and eight fours – including six in one over from Lucas Ndandason.

He and Tadiwanashe Marumani (39) put on 76 for the first wicket, and Zimbabwe reached 123-3 to win with 30 balls to spare. Vraj Patel was the pick of the Kenyan bowlers with 2 for 29.

Zimbabwe Join Namibia In the T20 World Cup

Before Zimbabwe’s qualification, Namibia sealed a berth in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup from the Africa qualifiers, defeating Tanzania in the semi-final in Harare on Thursday.

South Africa has already booked its place through direct qualification. This will mark Namibia’s fourth appearance at the T20 World Cup, having previously featured in 2021 (Super 12s), 2022 (group stage), and 2024 (group stage). The victory further cements Namibia’s reputation as one of Africa’s most consistent performers in the shortest format.
