Star India batter Abhishek Sharma has narrated how Shubman Gill once saved himself from facing the ire of coaches during their U16 days, thanks to his skills of changing expressions instantly when faced with issues. The duo are known to be best mates since their younger days.

On Sunday, after the victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup final, Abhishek was declared the Player of the Tournament with 314 runs in seven games. As a reward, he got a luxurious Haval H9 SUV, which costs Rs 35 lakh.

To celebrate the moment, Abhishek and Gill, who are very close friends from Punjab as well, sat in the SUV and took some selfies.

“As a kid there is only one kid who has never been caught doing mischief. That is Shubman. I will tell you an incident. We were in Dharamsala during our U16 days. Kids from Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and Punjab, imagine we were all together,” Abhishek said while speaking on Breakfast With Champions. 

“Our hotel was just 500m away from the Dharamsala Stadium. We used to go there by bus. The driver was stopping songs and we wanted to play Punjabi music. He had said, “I don’t want to play all this, stop all this,” Abhishek narrated.

“We got into an argument and the person who was shouting the loudest from the back was Shubman. The incident got escalated to the coaches. All the drivers came together and said, “Your kids have misbehaved,” Abhishek added.

The star Indian batter narrated how the coaches then asked the drivers to point out the players who were involved in the argument. Abhishek said that he and Prabhsimran Singh were the guilty parties, besides Gill.

Abhishek added how the drivers pointed out a few boys, but when it came to the latter, they didn’t take his name. The guilty players were asked to sign a letter stating their expulsion from the camp.

“First, I was sad about being sent back, but more sad about Shubman not getting caught. The person who started this, the person because of whom we were standing there. He had a talent that he could change his expressions,” Abhishek narrated.
