Star India all-rounder Amanjot Kaur recently delivered a one-liner at the post-match press conference after the match against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, which left the media in Guwahati in splits. Amanjot built a match-winning partnership with Deepti Sharma in the opening game to help India post a respectable score.
Youngsters Kranti Goud and Amanjot struck early with a wicket each, while Deepti marshalled a three-pronged spin attack that exploited the sharp turn on a dry track, kept under covers for over an hour because of rain.
Earlier, Amanjot displayed character and grit under pressure in her maiden Women’s World Cup game as she teamed up with veteran Deepti to lift India from a precarious position and post a challenging 269/8.
“Mujhe usi time pe kuch aisa dialogue aa jayega jo itni jaldi fail jaata hai jaise abhi ek hua (I just remember a certain one-liner at a point, I deliver it and then it spreads, like it happened the other day),” Amanjot said while speaking on a BCCI video.
“Kehte hai na ghayal sher ek kadam pichhe rehta hai lambi chhalaang maarne k liye. Aap log mujhe lines k liye famous kar doge (A saying goes that a wounded lion stays one step back to take a longer jump. You will make me famous for these one-liners),” Amanjot said while speaking to the media at the post-match press conference.
“Aisa nahi hai ki maine kuch socha hota hai ya likhke laaya hota hai. Wo ekdum se aata hai aur nikal jaata hai (It’s not like I think over them or write them down. They just arrive to me and come out),” Amanjot told BCCI.
The star Indian all-rounder also revealed that head coach Amol Muzumdar calls her ‘Vimanjot’ since she keeps flying around the field.
India next take on arch-rivals Pakistan in the World Cup, on Sunday, October 5 in Colombo. This will be Amanjot’s first outing against the neighbours in international cricket.
