Diwali is all about lights and celebrations, but bursting crackers sometimes causes car damage or even fire. The big question—will your car insurance cover it? Let’s find out.

In India, third-party insurance is mandatory, but it only pays for damage caused to someone else’s vehicle. If your own car catches fire due to crackers, this basic cover won’t help.

To protect your car, you need a Comprehensive Insurance Policy. These usually cover fire, theft, natural disasters, and accidents. But beware—if negligence is proven (like placing crackers on your car), your claim can be rejected.

If your car catches fire, immediately inform your insurer via their helpline or app. Take photos/videos, contact the fire brigade or police, and collect a fire report or FIR if required.

The insurer will send a surveyor to assess damage. Submit documents like policy copy, RC, driving license, and bills. After deductibles, the company settles your claim—but negligence can still lead to rejection.
