Revised charges, new features and discounts customers are set to enjoy under the revised Speed Post tariff announced by the Department of Posts.

The Speed Post documentary tariffs have been revised by the Department of Posts, with the new regulations set to be implemented from October 1, 2025. According to the Ministry of Communications, the Department of Posts has also introduced advanced features for customers such as OTP-based delivery, real-time tracking and online booking.

The revised tariffs and features align with DOP’s aim to strengthen its position as the customer’s most preferred delivery service platform. In its press release, the Ministry of Communications reiterated the DOP’s commitment to enhancing customer service by ensuring greater reliability and security.

Revised Speed Post Tariffs: New Features 

“The tariff of Inland Speed Post was last revised in October 2012. To sustain ongoing improvements, meet rising operational costs and invest in innovations, the tariff of Speed Post (documents) has now been rationally revised,” said the Ministry of Communications in its press release.

To ensure the best customer convenience, below is the list of new features that the Department of Posts has announced under the revised Speed Post tariff:

– OTP-based secure delivery

– Online payment facility

– SMS-based delivery notifications

– Convenient online booking services

– Real-time delivery updates

– Registration facility for users

“The revised tariff will come into effect from October 1, 2025,” confirmed the Ministry.

Speed Post Tariff Revised: Benefits 

The table below describes the updated tariff structure (as per India Post website):

For customers, the authorities have also provided a registration service through which they can send their Speed Post delivery. According to this service, both documents and parcels can be sent to the addressee in the most secure manner, where the post will be delivered only to the addressee or a person duly authorised by the addressee. For every delivery item, customers will be charged Rs 5 plus applicable GST.

In the OTP-based delivery system, the item will be delivered to the addressee only after the successful confirmation of the One Time Password with the delivery staff. This value-added service can be availed at a fee of Rs 5 per Speed Post item plus applicable GST. The Ministry has also ushered in a new Speed Post delivery benefit for students, who will receive a 10 per cent discount on payment. The new bulk customers will be eligible for a special discount of 5 per cent.

The Department of Posts had merged Registered Post with Speed Post services for domestic transmissions.
