Where is the Asia Cup 2025 trophy? This is the question that is doing the rounds since the controversial stand-off between the Indian men’s cricket team and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi unfolded at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium (DICS) after the Men in Blue beat Pakistan by five wickets in the final on Sunday.

The last time it was seen was when Naqvi left the stage in the middle of the post-match presentation, and the ACC officials followed him outside with the silverware. Now, as per the news agency PTI, the trophy was taken to the ACC headquarters, which is situated near the International Cricket Council (ICC) in Dubai, only about four kilometers from the DICS.

India won the match and the tournament in the final over, just before midnight. It took over an hour to get the presentation ceremony started as India refused to take the stage in Naqvi’s presence, and the ACC chief, who is also the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and leads multiple ministry posts in Pakistan, declined to allow anyone else to do the honors of handing over the trophy instead.

A couple of Indians participated in the ceremony eventually, with Tilak Varma, Abhishek Sharma, and Kuldeep Yadav all receiving their awards from other dignitaries, with the former two even speaking to presenter Sim Doull. However, soon, Doull informed that the ACC had told him that India wouldn’t take the trophy.

India’s stance was clear and backed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Naqvi is infamous in India for his anti-India comments and usual mocking of the nation in light of the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. India had also followed a ‘No Handshake Policy’ against the Pakistan side throughout.

At this moment, it’s unclear whether the ACC will hand over the trophy to the Indian side or not.

“I think this is one thing that I have never seen since I started playing and following cricket, that a champion team is denied a trophy. I mean that too, a hard-earned one. It’s not like it happened easily. It was a hard-earned tournament win,” Indian captain Suryakumar said after the incident.

A day after the final, he mentioned that the ‘real trophy’ was the hearts that the Indian team won.
