India’s hero of Asia Cup 2025 final Tilak Varma continues to land body blows on Pakistan after a memorable innings with the bat at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday night. Chasing 147 to win the title, India were in a spot of bother after losing three wickets cheaply before an ice-cool Varma dropped anchor to rebuild the innings and then hit an unbeaten half-century to secure five-wicket triumph.

For his game-changing 69* off 53, an inning featuring three fours and four sixes, Varma was chosen as player-of-the-final.

Post the victory, the 22-year-old reshared Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s viral post on X before schooling Pakistan with a six-word statement on Instagram.

“Talking is easy, winning takes character,” Varma wrote.

Soon after Rinku Singh struck the winning boundary in the last over, PM Modi took to social media to draw parallel between Operation Sindoor – the military operation launched by India targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir – and Team India’s Asia Cup triumph.

“Operation Sindoor on the games field. Outcome is the same – India wins! Congrats to our cricketers,” PM Modi wrote.

Sharing the viral post, Varma added, “India wins always”.

Tilak Varma Hails ‘Special Knock’

Varma admitted there was pressure and Pakistan did well to put India in a spot of bother early on. “It was pressure. They were bowling well. They were mixing the pace up. I was breathing and trying to stay calm,” he said at the post-match presentation.

There has been a criticism of India not sticking with a fixed batting order during the tournament. However, Varma defended the approach.

“We have prepared for every position. You should be flexible. I was prepared to bat at any position. I was backing my game. When the wickets are on the slower side, I have talked to Gauti sir (Gautam Gambhir) and have worked hard. One of the most special knocks of my life. This is for all the Indians,” he said.
