Durga Puja Bank Holidays: Banks across India will remain shut on several days between late September and early October 2025 on account of Durga Puja, Navratri, Gandhi Jayanti, and other regional festivals. As per the RBI’s holiday calendar, banks observe both nationwide holidays and state-specific festivals, along with regular weekly offs on the second and fourth Saturdays and all Sundays.
This year, September 29 has been declared a holiday in Agartala, Kolkata, and Guwahati for Maha Saptami, the seventh day of Durga Puja.
On September 30, branches in cities such as Bhubaneswar, Jaipur, Patna, Ranchi, and others will remain closed for Maha Ashtami or Durga Ashtami.
October 1 will see a wider set of closures across states including Tripura, Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, and more due to Dussehra, Ayudha Pooja, and Durga Puja.
October 2 will be a nationwide holiday for Gandhi Jayanti, coinciding with Dassehra, Vijaya Dashami, and Durga Puja in several states.
Banks in Sikkim will stay closed on October 3 and 4 for Durga Puja (Dasain), while October 5 is a Sunday, when all banks remain closed.
While bank branches will be closed on these dates, customers can continue using digital banking services, ATMs, and mobile apps as usual. However, services like cheque clearance, RTGS, and NEFT may be delayed due to branch closures. Those needing in-person services are advised to plan ahead and complete transactions before the respective state holidays.
