Feng Shui is not a person but an ancient Chinese spiritual science that means “wind and water”. It originated in China thousands of years ago and is based on the forces of nature, energy (chi), and balance. The main purpose of Feng Shui is to arrange the surroundings in such a way that health, good luck, wealth, and peace flow smoothly in life.

The word “feng” means wind, and “Shui” means water. Both wind and water are fundamental elements of life and represent the flow of energy. If both are balanced, then a person’s life becomes harmonious and happy. Feng Shui has developed from this ideology.

What is Feng Shui?

Feng shui is an ancient method of arranging and organizing objects around your home to encourage the free flow of energy or force called chi. Your home reflects your inner feelings. The purpose of feng shui is to align your home with your true nature by creating a peaceful balance between your energy and living space.

The term feng shui, which originated in China over 3,000 years ago, roughly translates to “wind (feng) and water (shui)”. The goal of feng shui interior design is to improve various areas of your life by aligning you with your surroundings. It helps to place furniture and decor in such a way as to establish a sense of balance in your home.

Importance of Feng Shui

Feng Shui suggests arrangements of different things in a way to create a positive environment. Chi is the life force that is an integral part of everything in this world. It is said that Chi is made up of two elements- Yin and Yang.

These elements are completely different from each other, but they complement each other and are inseparable. It is important to balance these elements to live a happy and fulfilling life. If any of these elements increase or decrease significantly, it can hurt our lives. Balancing yin and yang increases the flow of positive energy.

How to Balance Yin and Yang?

Feng shui encourages the balance of yin and yang. This is done by arranging furniture, decorative objects, and even buildings in a particular way. Entire villages and towns in China were designed with the principles of feng shui in mind. This helped maintain peace and harmony in the community as well as promote prosperity.

Feng shui places great emphasis on understanding which objects should be placed near doors and windows and which should be placed far away. Chi energy enters and leaves through these places.

To balance yin and yang, one must pay attention to the five elements – wood, water, earth, fire, and metal. Adding, removing, or moving these elements within a room or home can change its feng shui. The right combination of these five elements in a Feng Shui home enables the flow of positive energy.
