World No. 1 T20I batter Abhishek Sharma will play as an opener for India in the Asia Cup 2025 final. In the match scheduled to take place at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, September 28, against Pakistan, the left-handed batter will look to score big runs with the bat once again and help India win the Asia Cup title for the record-extending ninth time.

In the ongoing tournament, Abhishek has scored 309 runs in six matches played so far and broken multiple batting records. During the first-ever India-Pakistan Asia Cup final, the 25-year-old left-handed batter from Amritsar will have a chance to break many other batting records as well.

• Most runs in a T20I series/tournament for India: Abhishek needs 11 runs to break Virat Kohli’s record of most runs in a T20I series/tournament for Team India. Kohli played six matches for India in the 2014 T20 World Cup and amassed a total of 319 runs.

• Most runs in a T20I series/tournament by player from full-member team: If Abhishek scores at least 23 runs in the summit clash of the Asia Cup 2025, then he will break Phil Salt’s record of scoring the most runs in a T20I series/tournament by a player from a full-member team.

• A total of 91 runs in the final will help Abhishek become the first player from a full-member team to score 400 runs in a T20I series/tournament.
• Most runs in a T20I series/tournament: The overall record of scoring the most runs in a T20I series/tournament is in the name of Canada batter Aaron Johnson. Johnson scored 402 runs in seven matches of the 2022 Desert Cup T20I Series. Abhishek needs to score 94 runs to break Johnson’s record and take the No. 1 position.

• Most back-to-back 30+ scores in T20Is: If Abhishek scores at least 30 runs, then he will become the first batter in the world to score 8 back-to-back 30+ scores in T20Is. As of now, he is tied level with Rohit Sharma and Mohammad Rizwan, who crossed the 30-run mark in 7 back-to-back T20Is.

• Most runs in one edition of Asia Cup for India: Abhishek needs 64 runs to break Suresh Raina’s record of scoring the most runs in one edition of the Asia Cup (ODIs and T20Is combined) for India. Raina played six matches in the 2008 Asia Cup and scored 372 runs.

• Most runs in one edition of Asia Cup: If Abhishek scores 70 runs in the final, then he will break Sanath Jayasuriya’s record of most runs in one edition of the Asia Cup. The former Sri Lankan skipper and opener amassed a total of 378 runs in five matches of the 2008 Asia Cup.

• Most boundaries (4s and 6s) in a T20I series: Abhishek has hammered 50 boundaries in the 2025 Asia Cup. If he scores at least 16 boundaries in the final of the Asia Cup 2025, then he will break the record for scoring the most boundaries in a T20I series/tournament, which as of now is in the name of Canada’s Aaron Johnson.

• Most 50+ scores in one edition of Asia Cup T20Is: A fifty in the final of the Asia Cup will help Abhishek become the first player to cross the 50-run mark four times in one edition of the Asia Cup T20Is.

• Most runs in Asia T20Is: Abhishek needs 121 runs in the final to break Kohli’s record and become India’s highest run-getter in Asia Cup T20Is. If Abhishek scores 126 runs, then he will break Pathum Nissanka’s record and become the highest run-getter in the T20I format of the Asia Cup.

• A half-century in the match against Pakistan will also help him become the first Indian to register 50s in four back-to-back T20Is.
