LinkedIn and Microsoft have changed their terms for data usage from November 2025 that will be used to train AI and even show you ads.

LinkedIn is making the changes from November 2025 for all the users.
LinkedIn helps people find jobs and build a strong work network but soon the platform is going to use personal data for training its AI systems. LinkedIn has made changes to the privacy terms for its users which comes into effect from November 3, 2025.
The Microsoft-owned professional network site will also help out its parent company with more data as a part of the new terms that will be applicable for all the users. LinkedIn isn’t the only tech giant looking to utilise content from its platform to train AI and won’t be the last.
LinkedIn Data For Training AI: Any Way To Block It?
LinkedIn’s new terms for privacy states that data such as your profile details, work history, education background and posts written by you will be used for the AI training purpose. Even with all this content in its grasp, the platform assures your private messages with other contacts will not be used for training.
Like every other company, LinkedIn claims using all this data will be used to help improve user experience and make connecting with people easier. Fortunately, there is a way to stop LinkedIn from using your data and that can be done from the settings. Here are the steps to do that:
- Tap on profile icon from top-right
- Click on Settings and Privacy
- Tap on Data privacy
- You will see Data for Generative AI improvement
- Click on it and turn off Use my data for training content creation AI models option
LinkedIn will not use your data to train its AI systems for personalised experience
It Gets Worse
LinkedIn using data for AI training is one concern but there is another major issue brewing behind the scenes. The new privacy terms will give Microsoft the ability to use the data for showing you personalised ads. But there is a way stop that as well:
- Tap on profile icon from top-right
- Click on Settings and Privacy
- Go to Advertising Data from left of the screen
- Scroll down to Share data with affiliates and partners
- Disable the toggle button to stop seeing personalised ads
Most of these companies use data for different tasks, including showing you ads but all of them have a way that stops user data from being shared or for ads. It is just that the method is hidden far inside the platform which many people are not aware about.
Companies using data for AI training have faced backlash in recent times, especially Adobe that had to change its terms to make sure that creator’s content is not used for its AI system training.
