China’s ByteDance is taking on Nano Banana with AI images.

TikTok’s parent company has come out with a new AI tool which claims to perform better than Google’s latest sensation Nano Banana AI image generation model. The new AI image model from ByteDance called Seedream 4.0 is claimed to support advanced text-to-image generation and combines them with image editing features. 

The company says Nano Banana AI might be a big hit in the public but its own AI image model outperforms the Google model in its internal testing base. AI image models are getting better with every generation and since ChatGPT showing the world its value, others have followed suit. 

ByteDance Seedream 4.0 vs Nano Banana: How Does It Perform? 

According to media reports, Seedream 4.0 picks up the good traits of version 3.0 but it features a new architecture that improves the image inferences speed 10 times better than its predecessor. The editing results have got a positive impression and the people using the tool like the accuracy of the images that are generated using the text prompts fed into the AI system. 

But the claims made by ByteDance are hard to vouch for, something that most people can do for ChatGPT and Nano Banana tools because millions have used them. China’s AI models like DeepSeek have been tried out in other regions but Seedream 4.0 is still limited to the local market and available through some of the apps that are restricted to its home region. 

The US vs China AI Battle 

AI image generation carries a definite user privacy concern. And having China-based AI models will raise the issues when they head over to the West, especially the US. Nano Banana might have originated from the US but its craze in India is hard to ignore. More importantly, you have Nano Banana available beyond the Gemini app. You can even use the AI image model on WhatsApp via Perplexity AI bot. 

AI images have caught the imagination of millions, allowing them to restore old photos, or place them in a fun setting, like flying in space or artistic styles. Gemini Nano Banana is giving ChatGPT a tough run in the last few weeks and the new WhatsApp feature just makes it easier to use.
