Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is launching soon and the brand claims its name and design has nothing to do with Apple’s new model.
Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is not inspired by Apple’s flagship, says the brand
Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is launching and the company assures that its name has nothing to do with a brand from Cupertino in California. The iPhone 17 Pro Max has a namesake rival in the mix, and for the first time, Xiaomi has teased both the new Pro Max models next to each other.
This clip has been shared via Weibo where Xiaomi President Lu Weibing is not only holding both the models but also talking about the design of its upcoming flagship and the features.
Xiaomi 17 Series Not Inspired By Apple
The video with the Xiaomi chief seems to avoid the obvious comparisons with the iPhone 17 Pro Max model, and its rear camera layout this year. The clip with the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max next to Apple’s model tells you everything about these design changes, and besides the secondary screen at the back, there is very little to say that Xiaomi has a case with its ‘not copying Apple’ claim.
The brand even says the design has been inspired by its own Mi Ultra 11 model that came out in 2021 and we can agree to some extent with that point. Because it even had a smallish rear screen for basic alerts. Xiaomi also says the use of 17 series (and not bringing 16) with its flagship model has nothing to do with Apple’s own series launch this year.
This is not the first time when Xiaomi has faced questions about its Apple-like design focus. In fact, even at the software level you see iOS elements and design references in MIUI before and now the HyperOS versions.
So the similarities have been hard to dismiss and the naming for the new flagship phone only makes those allegations look stronger.
The new Xiaomi 17 series is expected to be launched this month and its China availability is confirmed before October 1. It will also be the first device to be powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset.
We are likely to see the Leica-powered camera system on all the three models which will be exciting to see and know more about. Xiaomi 17 series launch in India should happen early next year.
