The Edge browser security issue has been alerted

The Indian government has been alerted about new security risks affecting Microsoft Edge browser and it is warning the users about the vulnerability. The Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser has a security issue that has been highlighted with a high severity rating by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team or CERT-In in the last few days.

The security agency in this September 19, 2025 bulletin, claims that the web browser from Microsoft has multiple security vulnerabilities that could allow an attacker to bypass the security of your device and give them access to the data stored on it.

Microsoft Edge Security Risk: What’s The Issue?

The agency cites multiple security issues affecting the running of the browser and any possible exploitation could be dangerous for the victim. “Multiple vulnerabilities exist in Microsoft Edge due to Use after free in Serviceworker and Inappropriate implementation in Mojo. A remote attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by persuading a victim to visit a specially crafted website,” the note says.

Having access to any vulnerable system allows them to trigger remote code execution, perform UI spoofing, exploit stack, and heap corruption on the targeted system. Fair to say the high severity risk rating comes with a wide range of concerns for millions of Edge users on PCs.

Microsoft Edge Security Risk: Who Is Affected

To be clear, anybody using the Microsoft Edge browser on their systems, be it personal or business users can be targeted because of these issues. And specifically, if you’re using the Microsoft Edge version prior to 140.0.3485.66 then you need to update the browser for your system right away.

Microsoft Edge Issue: How To Update

Microsoft does have the situation in control and its recent update for the Edge browser is pivotal for the issues to be fixed. So, you can just head over to Microsoft Edge on your Windows PC and do the following:

  • Click on the three-dot menu on the top-right
  • Hover over Help and Feedback
  • Click on About Microsoft Edge

The browser starts looking for a new version and will update to the latest one and reboot to take effect and secure your system from the issues.
