The mood in the Indian dressing room after the men’s side’s six-wicket win over Pakistan in the Super Four clash of the 2025 Asia Cup was telling of their confidence and unity.

In a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Raghavindraa ‘Raghu’ Dvgi, one of the team’s training assistants, did the medal ceremony for the ‘Impact Player’ award. It’s an unofficial prize that the team gives to those who don’t win the Player of the Match but still make meaningful contributions.

Tilak Varma won it for this game. The left-handed middle-order batter played a crucial cameo of 30 (19) to finish the game off without any after Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill’s opening stand. He was especially key in making sure that in the 13th-18th over phase, where Pakistan spinners were gaining some ground, India didn’t stumble.

“I was so happy,” Varma said in the video after receiving the award. Hilariously, he reached out to touch Raghu’s feet, setting up a laugh riot among his teammates.

“I was thinking about finishing the game the last two times as well, but couldn’t. But my turn came today, and I did it for the team. But my efforts will always be up, till the end of the tournament, as Gauti sir said, till the World Cup, we’ll keep learning and we’ll keep moving forward,” Varma added.

Raghu also gave a powerful speech before giving the award.

“Ram Ram to everyone,” Raghu said. “Talent is God-given, be humble; fame is man-given, be thankful; concentration is self-given, be very, very careful. Motivation is temporary, discipline is permanent. Nobody is perfect in this game; you have to keep learning and move forward. All fame reaches God; God is great. Thank you to BCCI members, BCCI staff, and all ex-cricketers from my side. Success is never-ending, and failure is never final,” he added.

Varma joins Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Shivam Dube to win the award in the tournament. India will play Bangladesh and Sri Lanka next in the Super Four stage in a bid to reach the final.
