Pakistan are scheduled to face the United Arab Emirates in match No. 10 of the Asia Cup 2025 on Wednesday, September 17, in Dubai. But according to reports, the Pakistan cricket team will boycott the match. If Pakistan boycott the match against the UAE, then the Mohammad Waseem-led UAE team will be awarded two points, and the two points will take their tally to four, which will be enough for the UAE to qualify for the Super Fours of the Asia Cup 2025 along with Team India.
India, which opened their campaign with a 9-wicket win over UAE in Dubai on September 10 and then defeated Pakistan by 7 wickets on September 14 at the same venue, have already booked their place in the Super Fours.
According to tournament rules, the top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super Fours, and if Pakistan boycott their match against the UAE, then they will end up with only two points, and two points won’t be enough for them to qualify for the Super Fours.
Pakistan kicked off their Asia Cup 2025 campaign on Friday, September 12, with a 93-run win over Oman in Dubai, but in their second Group A match, which was played against arch-rivals India in Dubai on September 14, Pakistan went down by 7 wickets.
In the high-voltage India-Pakistan Group A match, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha won the toss and opted to bat first, but his team could only manage to post a total of 127 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. India then chased down the target of 128 runs for the loss of three wickets in 15.5 overs. For India, captain Suryakumar Yadav top-scored in the match by remaining not out on 47 balls, and Abhishek Sharma added 31 runs to India’s total.
If Pakistan play Wednesday’s match against UAE in Dubai and manage to get the better of them, then they will finish in the top two and qualify for the Super Fours. If Pakistan qualify for the Super Fours, they will take on India in the second Super 4s match on Sunday, September 21, in Dubai once again.
