Star Pakistan batter Saim Ayub on Sunday, September 14, drew level with Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez and Kamran Akmal on a bizarre list of most ducks in T20Is by a Pakistan batter. Ayub is having a horrendous outing with the bat at the ongoing Asia Cup.
Opening the innings for Pakistan, Ayub was outplayed by a well-pitched length ball from Hardik Pandya, angling away from the bat.
Ayub played the delivery with soft hands and ended up giving a simple catch to ace India pacer Jasprit Bumrah at point.
Ayub’s record-equalling duck depicts the challenges Pakistan’s batting lineup faces in high-pressure games against their arch-rivals India.
Former Pakistan pacer Umar Akmal remains at the top of this unwanted list with 10 ducks, followed by the legendary all-rounder Shahid Afridi, who has been dismissed without scoring eight times in the shortest format.
Most Ducks For Pakistan In T20Is
Umar Akmal: 10 in 79 innings
Shahid Afridi: 8 in 90
Babar Azam: 7 in 121
Kamran Akmal: 7 in 53
Mohammad Hafeez: 7 in 108
Saim Ayub: 7 in 41
The latter would have some thinking to do, given that he has already registered so many ducks in such less innings, as compared to Babar, Kamran and Hafeez.
On Sunday, India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav lost the toss, did not shake hands with his counterpart Salman Ali Agha, but never lost the plot as the opposition batters were all at sea from the very first legal ball, when Ayub (0) slashed one off Hardik Pandya (1/34 in 3 overs) to Bumrah at point.
Bumrah, in the next over, got last game’s top scorer Mohammad Haris (3), who tried a pick-up pull shot, but this time, Pandya returned the favour to the former by taking a well-judged catch in fine leg region.
Sahibzada Farhan (40 of 44 balls) did smack Bumrah for two sixes but couldn’t read any of the Indian spinners as dot deliveries kept piling up.
