Bhopal-based astrologer warned that looking in the mirror at dawn may disrupt energy and mindset, suggesting meditation or fresh air instead for a positive start to the day

For many, glancing into the mirror immediately after waking up may seem like an innocent routine, but experts in astrology and Vastu Shastra caution that the practice could have deeper, unseen consequences on one’s energy and mindset.
Astrologer and Vastu consultant Pandit Hitendra Kumar Sharma, based in Bhopal, explained that the habit of checking one’s reflection at dawn is “not just a casual act, but can be a significant mistake at the energy level”. According to him, this seemingly harmless action could disturb the balance of thought and energy that naturally arises in the early hours.
Morning, he noted, is not simply the time to rise from sleep; it is a transitional phase when body and mind align for the new day. “If you look at yourself in the mirror as soon as you wake up, then this energy can turn in a wrong direction,” he said.
Sharma emphasised that glass and mirrors are associated with the planet Venus, which governs beauty, desire and illusion. “The mirror shows you only what you want to see, not what is really there. The day, therefore, begins with a kind of illusion,” he remarked.
Explaining the implications of the practice, Sharma listed several effects:
- Starting the day with illusion: Upon waking, the mind is still unclear. The mirror, instead of grounding perception, could complicate it further, leading to confusion in decision-making.
- Impact of negative energy: After sleep, the body undergoes a cleansing process. Looking into the mirror during this phase, Sharma warned, could cause negative energy to return inward, affecting mood and behaviour.
- Living in imagination: The reflection, being symbolic of desire and illusion, may encourage detachment from reality.
- Weakening of decision-making: A confused start, he added, makes it harder to distinguish between right and wrong, gradually impairing judgment.
- Failure despite effort: Even hard work may not yield results if the day begins on a negative note, since the results are aligned with the feeling with which the day starts, Sharma stated.
What to do instead
Advising against beginning the day with a mirror glance, Sharma recommended small but positive alternatives: taking deep breaths, opening a window for fresh air, meditating or offering a brief prayer, drinking water, and washing the face with cold water. These actions, he suggested, can help redirect energy constructively and set a positive tone for the entire day.
