While India and Pakistan cricketers have avoided making incendiary remarks in the lead up to their high-voltage Asia Cup 2025 clash in Dubai, the off-field drama continues unabated. The BCCI is being targeted for going ahead with the contest given the strained relationship between India and Pakistan in the backdrop of the Pahalgam terror attack earlier this year.
On social media, even the official accounts of T20 franchises are registering their protest. While IPL franchise Punjab Kings avoided mentioning India’s next opponent in the ongoing continental tourney while announcing the fixture, PSL’s Karachi Kings responded by sharing a creative that displays Pakistan captain Salman Agha engrossed in a chess game against a black silhouette.
Naturally, both the posts have polarised opinions.
Madan Lal Wants Focus On The Match
Addressing the political tensions, 1983 World Cup winner Madan Lal says it’s time to just focus on the match.
“Whenever an India-Pakistan match is on, politics always gets involved, and everyone jumps in,” Lal told news agency PTI. “The contest should go on. First, we are the hosts, and we stop ACC teams from participating. If Pakistan refuses, then it’s a different matter. When the government has declared that they can play outside India, then it’s fine. We shouldn’t even be discussing it. Let’s just enjoy the match tomorrow.”
Sunday’s clash will be the first time since India and Pakistan will play at international level ever since the Operation Sindoor – a military operation India launched targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Uddhav Thackery Against IND-PAK Clash
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray says playing a cricket match with Pakistan is an insult to national sentiments. “This cricket match is an insult to national sentiments. Should we be playing cricket with Pakistan while our soldiers sacrifice their lives on the borders?” Thackeray asked.
