Spotify lossless audio finally getting a lift off next month in over 50 countries where Premium subscribers can set it from the settings.
Spotify lossless audio is coming for Premium users and not in a new plan
Spotify users will soon get this premium feature and the streaming app is giving you for free. Well, technically, you still need to pay Spotify for its Premium version but lossless audio is finally on its way to the platform in the next few weeks. Spotify has been teasing its Hi-Fi version for years and every time we hear news about its launch, we have covered it. So it is finally good to see the feature getting an official rollout timeline for October, even though it is coming to select regions for now.
Spotify Lossless Audio Is Coming And It Costs Nothing For You
Spotify has been flirting with the idea of bringing a higher-priced plan for its lossless audio support but Apple Music changed its thoughts.
So, you now get the premium feature baked into the existing version and anybody paying Spotify for its services will get lossless audio support via an update. Yes, Spotify is not going to charge you anything extra for this feature which is how it should have been in the first place.
Having said that, Spotify is keeping its options open, which is why the new lossless support is limited to 24-bit/44.1 kHZ FLAC codec which might not mean a lot to most users but that’s where the lossless quality shows its true colours.
Spotify Lossless Audio: How To Use On Your Phone
Spotify is making it easy to use the new lossless audio quality for Premium users. They just have to follow these steps to get started:
- Open Spotify on the phone
- Tap on the profile icon on the top-left
- Go to settings and privacy
- Scroll down to media quality
- Select lossless option from the drop down menu
- Your Spotify premium account now will stream lossless audio quality
Spotify lossless audio is coming to Premium subscribers in 50 countries like the US, UK, Australia, Japan and Germany among others. India is not mentioned in the list which is surprising but should be added in the next phase of its rollout.
It will work on mobile, desktop as well as the tablet version. But you will need devices from brands like Bose, Sennheiser, Samsung and Sony to take advantage of the higher quality audio.
The platform even lets you choose the new feature to run over Wi-Fi, mobile data and for the downloaded files.
Spotify is the latest to bring lossless audio option, along with Apple Music and Amazon Music offering for free. YouTube is the only music platform to not offer the feature, even for its Premium users, and it does not look like Google has any plans to bring it either.
