Middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer was ignored by the BCCI selectors for a place in India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad on August 19, but on September 6, he was named as the skipper of the India A team for the upcoming two unofficial Tests against Australia A. India A will face Australia A in two red-ball matches in Lucknow. The first match is scheduled to take place from September 16 to 19 at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, and the same venue will host the second four-day match from September 23 to 27.

Ahead of leading the India A team, Iyer recently made an appearance on iQOO India’s YouTube channel, and during the chat, he was asked to pick one moment from the cricket field that he will never forget.

Iyer, who is the only captain to reach the IPL final with three different teams, ignored the memorable IPL title win with the Shah Rukh Khan-owned Kolkata Knight Riders team in 2024 and instead picked India’s Champions Trophy 2025 title win as the on-field cricket moment he will never forget.

“Winning the ICC Championship for India. Champions Trophy mein. I think that was the best feeling ever,” Iyer said.

Iyer played all five matches for India as a No. 4 batter in the Champions Trophy 2025 and registered scores of 15 runs from 17 balls against Bangladesh, 56 from 67 balls against Pakistan, 79 from 98 balls against New Zealand, 45 from 62 balls against Australia (semifinal) and 48 runs from 62 balls against the Black Caps in the final.

He finished the tournament with a total of 243 runs in five matches, which is the most by an Indian batter.

In the ODI World Cup 2023 as well, Iyer was India’s No. 4 batter, and he amassed a total of 530 runs in 11 matches.

In the 50-over megaevent, Iyer remained unbeaten on 128 runs from just 94 balls against the Netherlands in India’s last league match and played a knock of 105 runs from just 70 balls against the Kiwis in the semifinal match at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

However, in the summit clash, he failed to live up to the expectations and got out for four runs from three balls.
