The ITR filing deadline for FY2024-25 was extended to September 15, 2025, but FKCCI and CAAS seek further extension due to technical glitches and late release of ITR utilities.

ITR Filing deadline for non-audit taxpayers is September 15.
ITR Filing 2025 Due Date: With only 8 days left, demands to extend the due date of non-audit taxpayers for the income tax filing (ITR) for FY2024-25 (Assessment year 2025-26) have arisen in various groups, including, tax associations, CAs and tax experts, over technical glitches in the portal, delay in releasing Excel-utilities for ITR forms 2,3,5,6 and 7, data mismatches between AIS and Form 26AS, server crash and more.
The income tax department has extended the deadline for the ITR filing for FY2024-25 (Assessment Year 2025-26) for 45 days to September 15, 2025, from July 30, 2025. This new due date applies to individuals, Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) and other taxpayers whose accounts don’t require auditing.
Now, the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FKCCI) and the Chartered Accountants Association, Surat (CAAS) have asked the tax department for the due date extension beyond September 15. The bodies also cited technical and compliance-related issues, along with frequent changes in ITR forms this year.
The tax department, however, hasn’t given any update on the extension of due date for filing ITR for FY2024-25 (AY 2025-26).
In its letter to CBDT as cited by ET Wealth Online, FKCCI president MG Balakrishna wrote, “Due to the implementation of the extensive changes in the ITR Forms and the systems to comply with the changes, there have been significant glitches and technical issues, which are being addressed to the respective authorities tasked with the functioning of the systems at hand. These technical glitches have significantly caused delays in being prepared with the filing of the returns, and compromised our ability to comply with the timelines as proposed in the notification by the board.”
In a letter to the CBDT chairman, CAAS raised several grievances and criticised the department for ignoring key issues. The body pointed out that the utilities were released very late — ITR-5 on August 8, ITR-6 on August 14, and ITR-7 on August 21, 2025. Similarly, the Tax Audit Utilities (Form 3CA/3CB-3CD) were released only on August 14, 2025.
CAAS noted that for audit-assessees, whose statutory filing deadline is September 30, 2025, the Government has effectively left just about 40 days to complete the most exhaustive compliance task of the year.
