The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is gearing up for its Annual General Meeting (AGM), scheduled to take place in the last week of September in Mumbai. Ahead of the AGM, a high-level meeting of the board’s top officials is expected to be held in the coming days to discuss and finalise candidates for key leadership positions.

According to India Today, the meeting will be a closed-door affair, with senior members of the board deliberating on the future leadership structure. While some positions – the posts of secretary, joint secretary, and treasurer – are expected to remain unchanged, the elections will be held for the posts of president and vice-president — roles that could significantly influence the board’s direction in the coming years.

The contenders reportedly include both former Indian cricketers and seasoned cricket administrators, and the final decision will be taken only after the leadership meeting.

Rajeev Shukla, the current vice-president, has emerged as a key figure in the ongoing discussions. The report further suggested three possible scenarios for him: retaining his current position, being elevated to the role of BCCI president, or taking over as chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL). While the most probable outcome is his continuation as vice-president, there is also a ‘60-40 possibility’ of him stepping into the president’s role.

The IPL chairmanship could also witness a change. The India Today report suggests former BCCI treasurer Anirudh Choudhury is being considered for a return, while Avishek Dalmiya, a member of the IPL Governing Council and a prominent figure from Bengal cricket, is also in the running.

A formal notice for the AGM is expected to be issued within the next two to three days. The upcoming leadership meeting is likely to set the tone not only for the elections but also for the internal power dynamics within the BCCI, as the board prepares for another crucial phase in its administration.
