iPhone maker Apple’s annual sales in India touched a record of nearly $9 billion in the last financial year 2024-25, Bloomberg reported, citing a person familiar with the matter. This is a 13% increase from about $8 billion recorded in the previous year, underscoring growing consumer demand for Apple’s flagship devices in the country.

According to the report, iPhones accounted for the bulk of Apple’s India sales in FY25, while demand for MacBook computers also registered strong growth. The performance offers a boost to the US-based company at a time when global mobile device sales are plateauing.

Apple is steadily increasing its presence in the country, which it expects to emerge as a key market. The push comes as Apple faces volatile demand and rising competition in China, its largest overseas market, where sales rose just 4.4% in the June quarter after two years of declines.

As part of its retail expansion in India, Apple opened two new stores in Bengaluru and Pune this week. Additional outlets are planned in Noida, on the outskirts of Delhi, and in Mumbai early next year.

Apple CEO Tim Cook on Thursday announced the opening of two new Apple stores in India, located in Bengaluru and Pune. With this launch, Apple now has four official stores in the country. The first two were Apple BKC in Mumbai and Apple Saket in Delhi, followed by the newly announced Apple Hebbal in Bengaluru and Apple Koregaon Park in Pune.

Taking to social media platform X, Cook said, “Say hello to Apple Hebbal in Bengaluru and Apple Koregaon Park in Pune! We are thrilled to continue to bring the best of Apple to customers across India at these two new stores.”

Apple had launched its online store in India in 2020, followed by its first two physical outlets in Mumbai and New Delhi in 2023, inaugurated by Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook. The company has since expanded its retail footprint by adding more premium resellers.

India stands as Apple’s fourth-largest market globally in 2024, after the US, China, and Japan.

India is also becoming central to Apple’s manufacturing plans. One in every five iPhones is now produced in India, and Apple is expanding production across five factories, including two recently opened plants, according to Bloomberg. The move is part of a broader strategy to reduce reliance on China as a manufacturing base.
