Zuckerberg has been deep into MMA fighting before he tore his ACL
Mark Zuckerberg has shared visuals of him doing intense physical training and even taking part in Jiu-Jitsu tournaments. But a new revelation goes deeper into his passion for the activities, and even got his staff engaged in the mixed martial arts MMA training. Nick Clegg, former head of global affairs, Meta is coming out with a memoir which details Zuckerberg’s lifestyle and how he involved employees and top executives from the company in physical art forms.
“Mark’s commitment to MMA is so strong that he insisted one morning during an offsite for the management, that some of the senior executives join him for a training session,” Clegg has mentioned in his book. We’ve heard stories about Zuckerberg being focused on training regimes but this new side revealed by Clegg tells you more about the Meta co-founder.
He even recalled one instance when he was in submission hold with his deputy, Joel Kaplan, on the mat, which he found to be “too close for comfort.”
Mark And His Jiu-Jitsu Phase
The Meta CEO has been taking part in various tournaments, and even shared photos with multiple MMA fighters who were part of the sessions with him. This also brought about the possibility of a cage match between Zuckerberg and Elon Musk, who were engaged in a social battle, and claimed both of them were training for the big match that Musk said will be fought in the Colosseum in Italy.
Fast-forward to 2025, and the catch match never happened, in fact, Zuckerberg called off the bout in 2023 itself, accusing Musk of not being serious about their match.
Zuckerberg’s MMA focus has also got some eyeballs back at home, with the wife, Priscilla Chan not liking that he built an MMA octagon in the backyard of their house.
The Meta CEO even shared a post on Instagram which highlights the exchange between both of them. Chan even shared a response to these antics via WhatsApp and said, “I have been working on that grass for two years,” which suggests she wasn’t happy that all her efforts were ruined by putting the MMA octagon in that area.
