How often do you replace items we use daily at home, like mattresses, toilet brushes, or even bath mats? A recent video shared online by a doctor highlighted the exact timelines for replacing certain household items. The post, titled “How often to replace household items?”, has grabbed attention online.

In the video, shared on Instagram, Dr Manan Vora covers a range of household essentials and provides clear timelines for when each should ideally be replaced. The caption of the video reads, “Household Items You Probably Need To Replace ASAP!”

Bath Mats

Many of us overlook bath mats and keep them for long periods. Dr Vora mentioned that bath mats should ideally be replaced within a year to maintain hygiene and avoid the accumulation of bacteria.

Bed Sheets

Bed sheets are another item often used for years. Dr Vora suggested that bed sheets should be replaced every two years.

Toilet Brushes

Toilet brushes need regular attention, too. According to Dr Vora, these should be replaced every 8 to 10 months to ensure proper cleanliness and hygiene in bathrooms.

Non-Stick Cookware

Non-stick cookware usually lasts longer, but it also has limits. He recommended replacing non-stick cookware every five years or sooner, or when the coating peels.

Mattresses

Dr Vora advised that mattresses should ideally be replaced every eight years they are essential for a good night’s sleep.

Couches

Couches can last over a decade, depending on use and care. Dr. Vora suggested a timeline of 12 to 15 years, noting that wear and tear may vary.

What Viewers Had To Say

The video has accumulated over one lakh views. While many viewers appreciated the advice, others added playful comments.

One user commented, “I need to replace myself” while another added “I need to replace myself. I’m riddled with many health conditions thanks to trauma.”

Someone else said, “Better paying job to pay for all these replacements.”

Meanwhile, a viewer asked about pillows: “What about pillows? My dad is not throwing out his favourite handmade semal-silk cotton pillow since long ago, though it look fresh but I feel OCD of old cloths and faded clothes.”

“Why bed sheets every 2 years? Quality fabrics you can easily wash weekly without it wearing out in 2 years,” an individual questioned.

A person humorously commented, “O Brother!!!!! We are Indians. We make the carpenter sit in our house n make furniture. It is supposed to last at least 2 generations. You are saying 12 to 13 years is scandalous.”

Knowing when to replace household items helps maintain hygiene and keeps your house clean and organised.
