WhatsApp Status updates let you share content with contacts but soon it will work even for a close friends group like Instagram.

WhatsApp is slowly becoming like Instagram
WhatsApp users are gradually seeing Meta showing its influence with some of the recent features. And another one might be on its way to the platform, borrowed from Instagram and even Snapchat. The messaging app lets you share Status Updates that is like Stories and Snap, and soon the updates can be shared with select friends and contacts on the app.
You click/tap on the profile ring of any WhatsApp contact and see their latest updates, which could be a still image or a video with a caption. WhatsApp wants to personalise Updates for its users, and that could happen in the next few months.
WhatsApp Status Updates With Close Friends
Status updates with Close friends in WhatsApp have been spotted in the latest iOS beta version 25.23.10.80, and highlighted by WaBetaInfo in its report this week. Instagram users have relied on its own version of close friends tool and Meta is now extending the support to its other product. And it works the same way which was rather expected.
WhatsApp Close Friends Updates: How it Works
The tipster has pointed out the ways the new feature will work for Status updates on WhatsApp. You get three lists for contacts; My Contacts, My Contacts Except and Only Share With. The messaging app will also have the Close Friends option which is a more refined version of Only Share with.
WhatsApp will let you create a list to use Close Friends and once you do that, the content will reflect on the profile DP in a different colour. The people getting this update will be able to see the live update for the content which is not visible to everyone. The beta tests are running for select people but its wider release is expected in the coming weeks.
The messaging app is also testing a new way to use the ‘disappearing chats’ feature. The existing timeline for chats to disappear on WhatsApp are 24 hours, 7 days (one week) or 90 days.
Once the timer is set for either of these options, your chats will go away for good. But the messaging app wants to make the tool even more effective by letting them disappear in one hour or even 12 hours if needed in some cases.
