HP has upgraded its 2-in-1 OmniBook Flip X with the Intel AI-powered CPU which brings new traits to the model. But does it make an impact?
HP is bringing its 2-in-1 models with new Intel AI CPUs
HP has been making flexible laptops for a few years like other brands. And with the AI era knocking on the doors, these models are getting new hardware that focus on the next-gen features and abilities. The OmniBook Flip X has gone through multiple iterations and with the new Intel Core Ultra AI CPU series it looks to make better sense of its 2-in-1 traits.
The product itself doesn’t change much, the functionalities are intact but the price factor comes into play when you have the novelty of ‘AI’ attached to anything these days. So does the new OmniBook Flip X with AI powers show that value, we give the answer.
It Flips
The OmniBook Flip X gets a 360-degree design, which means, you can use it like a regular laptop, a screen-based tablet, the 90-degree or tent mode too.
This flexibility is assured by the strong hinge mechanism used to give the device durability. The metal construction is an added plus which also brings the premium effect to the device.
The brushed metallic finish does induce smudges which can look ugly in the blue variant we got. The weight distribution of the Flip X at 1.38 kg could have been slightly better but it seems the hinge had a heavy role to play in its balance. The design is slick and simple and that mostly works for us.
It’s Vibrant
HP has made no concessions with the display quality on the Flip X. You get a 14-inch OLED 3K resolution touch screen with up to 120Hz refresh rate and sleek bezels which gives you more viewing estate. The brightness level is good enough to handle most conditions, however, going with an OLED panel means you have a reflective screen, and not the anti-glare kind.
The display itself is vibrant, the colours are punchy and watching content in any form is a kind relief for the eyes.
It does get Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection which could help in exceptional cases where you drop the device.
The Intel AI Push
Intel’s Copilot Plus PC tag is available for select models, and most of them launching in 2025 have it. The Core Ultra 7 powering the OmniBook Flip X with 32GB RAM and 1TB storage on our unit, shows the specs sheet full of AI jargon and some functional use cases.
The NPU built into the hardware handles most of the heavy AI tasks and processing so that the main CPU is relied on for the regular computing work. This ensures the heating does not go beyond a certain level that makes it uncomfortable. Having 32GB memory is a luxury that basic users will see as an overkill. But having this also shows you don’t have to worry about the future degradation of the hardware that affects its overall reliability.
Can you play games? The benchmark scores once again tell you where the Core Ultra 7 stands among its peers. You can definitely play games but with certain limits to what titles will deliver the best experience. This is clearly a productivity focused machine in most cases.
Any talk of AI push is incomplete without referencing Windows 11 and HP’s own AI suite. The regular AI attractions like Copilot work to decent effect. While HP’s tools are catering to more diverse needs and demands of the user. The regular features have improved over time and we are seeing the benefits of a new model using higher RAM and NPU power to process the data.
Does it Work?
The new spaced out keyboard and the large trackpad gives it a bigger stature for a 14-inch form factor. The size of the keys make it comfortable to type and barely any false clicks were observed during our time.
The travel is quite good which delivers a tactile feedback that most people like. Yes, they get backlit support like most premium laptops in the market and they really come in handy, in case you end up working without any light source.
Having said that, the trackpad design had us confused sometimes, especially with the right clicks, maybe a better demarcation for them would have helped. The webcam has a shutter for privacy which most brands should adopt these days.
You get two USB C Thunderbolt ports, one HDMI port and a regular USB port on the left side, while the right side houses a single USB port along with a headphone jack. The speakers get loud but the audio feels muffled because of the bottom facing position.
Does It Last?
HP or any other PC brand in the AI territory claim the battery life has improved drastically, does the OmniBook Flip X join the ranks? We got over 8 hours running on a single charge, and somewhere the 3K OLED display shows its true power-hungry nature.
However, the standby idle time is quite decent, and we saw the battery drop about 2-3 percent overnight. The bundled USB C charger does a quick job of having you up and running in around an hour with 80 percent fuel in the tank.
The OmniBook Flip X with the Intel AI CPU shows its versatility and AI potential merged with its 2-in-1 traits. You even get a stylus in the box which lets you get creative in the screen-only mode. The power is there to keep the work going, the other functional sides of the laptop along with the design does its best premium impression.
