The income tax department has issued a detailed compliance schedule for September 2025, covering advance tax, TDS/TCS, ITR filing, and audit reports. Taxpayers are advised to mark the following important dates to avoid penalties and late fees.
September 7
The due date for depositing tax deducted or collected in August 2025. Government offices making payments without challan must also deposit the amount on the same day. In addition, declarations received from buyers in Form 27C during August must be uploaded.
September 14
Last date to issue TDS certificates for July 2025 under Sections 194-IA, 194-IB, 194M, and 194S.
September 15
A crucial deadline for multiple compliances. Government offices must file Form 24G for August, where TDS/TCS was paid without challan. Taxpayers are also required to pay the second instalment of advance tax for AY 2026-27.
Stock exchanges need to file Form 3BB for August, reporting client code modifications.
The extended due date for filing income tax returns for AY 2025-26 also falls on September 15, along with the submission of related forms and certificates, including declarations under Sections 80GG, 80RRB, 80QQB, and relief claims under Sections 89 and 89A. Taxpayers must also exercise options regarding new tax regimes under Sections 115BAC, 115BAD, 115BAE, and concessional tax rates under Section 115BBF.
September 30
The last date to furnish challan-cum-statements for August 2025 under Sections 194-IA, 194-IB, 194M, and 194S.
Assessees subject to tax audit must submit their audit reports under Section 44AB for AY 2025-26, applicable to corporates and others whose return filing due date is October 31.
Taxpayers must also file Form 9A and Form 10 to apply or accumulate income for future years. Other prescribed audit reports, such as Forms 10B, 10BB, 3AC, 3AD, 3AE, and 3CE, are also due, relating to deductions, exemptions, slump sales, and specified business activities.
Reports under Sections 80LA, 80JJAA, 115JB, 115JC, and 115VW, along with certificates for specified funds and exempt incomes, must also be submitted by this date.
Income Tax Deadline
The income tax return (ITR) filing season is going on, with the due date for non-audit ITRs being September 15, 2025. However, for those requiring audit, the deadline is October 31.
So far, over 3.98 crore ITRs have been filed. Out of this, nearly 3,8 crore returns have been verified. A total of 2.51 crore ITRs have also been processed till August 30, 2025. There are a total of 13,30,60,424 individual registered users on the e-filing portal.
