Out-of-favour India batter Nitish Rana was on fire with the bat on Friday (August 29). The 31-year-old left-handed batter from Delhi, who has played one ODI and two T20Is for Men in Blue against Sri Lanka in July 2021, scored an unbeaten 134 runs from just 55 balls for West Delhi Lions on Friday in the Eliminator match of Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 played against South Delhi Superstarz at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
In the match, which was a must-win for West Delhi Lions, Rana came out to bat at No. 4 in the 202-run chase and hammered 8 fours and 15 sixes during his stay at the crease. He slammed South Delhi Superstarz star spinner Digvesh Singh Rathi for two fours and five sixes.
Rana added 97 runs for the third wicket with opener and wicketkeeper-batter Krish Yadav (31 runs from 22 balls) and an unbeaten 84 runs for the fourth wicket with Mayank Gusain (15 not out from 16 balls).
For his super show with the bat in the Eliminator match, Rana also won the Player of the Match award.
Rana, who plays for Rajasthan Royals in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL), was horribly out of form in DPL 2025. In the eight league stage matches, he was only able to score 135 runs. But in the do-or-die contest, he showed his class and won the match single-handedly.
In IPL 2025 as well, Rana, with the help of two half-centuries, scored 217 runs in 11 matches. He made 81 runs from just 36 balls for Rajasthan Royals in their third league match against Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati on March 30, 2025, and then slammed 51 runs from 28 balls against Delhi Capitals at Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 16.
He was ruled out of the last phase of IPL 2025 due to injury.
In the IPL, Rana has also played for Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders. He represented MI in IPL 2016 and 2017 and scored 437 runs in 17 matches under Rohit Sharma’s leadership. In the IPL 2018 mega auction, Rana joined the Kolkata Knight Riders and played seven seasons for the Shah Rukh Khan-owned team.
In 2023, when Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the tournament due to injury, Rana led the side as well but failed to help them win the title.
