Lalit Modi asks ‘why is she angry?’ in response to Sreesanth’s wife, Bhuvneshwari’s angry reaction to him sharing the ‘slapgate’ video involving Harbhajan Singh.

Fugitive former IPL chairman Lalit Modi defended himself over sharing the now-viral video of Harbhajan Singh slapping Sreesanth during IPL 2008, after facing scathing criticism from the pacer’s wife, Bhuvneshwari.
Harbhajan, of the Mumbai Indians at the time, and Sreesanth, of the Punjab Kings, were engaging in arguments all throughout the league stage game. It broke out of bounds during the post-match handshake when Harbhajan hit Sreesanth on the face while walking past him.
The news only made it out in print and still caused a huge uproar. Later, Harbhajan would say that though Sreesanth provoked him, it’s the one incident he regrets the most in his career, and that he has apologized to the former India teammate hundreds of times.
Modi released the unseen footage after 17 years in an interview with Michael Clarke, to which Bhuvneshwari responded by calling it a ‘disgusting, heartless, and inhuman’ act.
“I don’t know why she is getting angry,” Modi told IANS. “I was asked a question, and I shared the truth. I can’t do anything about that. I am known to speak the truth. Sree was the victim, and that’s exactly what I said. No one had asked me this question earlier, so when Clarke quipped, I responded,” he added.
Here’s what Bhuvneshwari had said via her Instagram story: “Shame on you @lalitkmodi and @michaelclarkeofficial. You people are not even human to drag up something from 2008 just for your own cheap publicity and views. Both @sreesanthnair36 and Harbhajan have long moved on, they are fathers now with school-going children, and yet you try to throw them back into an old wound. Absolutely disgusting, heartless, and inhuman.”
In an interview with Ravichandran Ashwin, Harbhajan had also recalled how, a few years after the incident, Sreesanth’s daughter had refused to talk to him, telling him, ‘You hit my father’. Harbhajan said it broke his heart beyond measure and that he was on the verge of tears.
Harbhajan and Sreesanth have both retired now and work as pundits.
