Former India pacer S Sreesanth’s wife Bhuvneshwari on Friday took to Instagram to take a massive dig at IPL founder Lalit Modi and former Australia cricketer Michael Clarke, saying that they brought up a video of Harbhajan Singh slapping her husband for ‘cheap publicity’.
Modi, the architect of the Indian Premier League, revisited multiple past episodes on a podcast with Clarke, where he unveiled the never-before-seen footage from the Mumbai Indians–Kings XI Punjab clash.
Modi recounted the episode to Clarke, explaining that his security camera had captured the unseen moment after the broadcasters had turned theirs off.
“I’ll tell you what happened. I will give you the video. I have kept it back. Bhajji is a very dear friend of mine. I love him. It happened on the field and I was there. It was Bhajji and it was Sreesanth,” Modi told Clarke while speaking on the Beyond23 podcast.
“The game was over and the cameras were shut off. Only one of my security cameras was on. As the team finished playing, the players were high-fiving and shaking hands with each other,” Modi added.
The footage revealed Harbhajan delivering a back-handed slap to Sreesanth during the post-match handshake between cricketers of both sides.
Harbhajan and Sreesanth have long put the episode behind them, often seen together since, with the former offering several apologies for the incident.
Sreesanth’s wife, Bhuvneshwari, lashed out at Modi and Clarke for releasing the 2008 IPL slap-gate clip, calling the act “disgusting, heartless and inhuman.”
“Shame on you, @lalitkmodi and @michaelclarkeofficial. You people aren’t even human to drag up something from 2008 just for your own cheap publicity and views. Both @sreesanthnair36 and Harbhajan have long moved on; they are fathers now with school-going children and yet you try to throw them back into an old wound. Absolutely disgusting, heartless and inhuman,” Bhuvneshwari wrote on her Instagram story.
“@sreesanthnair36 has rebuilt his life with dignity and grace after every hardship he faced. As his wife and as the mother of his children, it is deeply painful for our family to see this resurface after 18 long years,” Bhuvneshwari wrote.
