Ace India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is eyeing a player-cum-coach role in overseas T20 leagues, according to a report in Cricbuzz, having announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket and the IPL. He said that he will now look forward to a new journey.

With his rich international and franchise experience, Ashwin looks all set to broaden his horizons and explore opportunities in overseas leagues.

Ashwin on Wednesday announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League, bringing the curtains down on a 16-year-long association with the tournament months after saying goodbye to international cricket.

Ashwin announced the decision on a social media post and is now reportedly eyeing roles in foreign leagues.

SA20 might not happen this year for Ashwin, as all the franchises, owned by IPL teams, appear to have finalised their signings. But he still has Major League Cricket, The Hundred and the ILT20 in sight, the report states.

According to previous reports, the SA20 auction register is done as well. The season 4 auction is just around the corner, scheduled for September 9.

The ILT20 could be on Ashwin’s radar this year, with five of the six franchises owned by Indians likely eager to welcome him aboard.

According to the report, officials from all the leagues have reached out to Ashwin, including those from the Big Bash League in Australia, following his announcement of IPL retirement on Wednesday.

A player-cum-coach role appears tailor-made for Ashwin, considering his expertise and deep cricketing acumen.

Post-retirement, Ashwin appears to have numerous chances available. Commentary is one option, while his sharp cricketing mind makes him a strong contender for administrative roles as well.

In fact, some of the unconventional suggestions to the last Indian Premier League retention rules are believed to have come from Ashwin’s inputs to the BCCI.

I really want to enjoy my last couple of years, hopefully without any judgments from anyone. I wanna live life on my terms,” Ashwin said while speaking to Cricbuzz.
