Ravichandran Ashwin retired from the IPL after 16 seasons with Chennai Super Kings, eyeing new ventures like The Hundred as BCCI rules now allow him to play in global leagues.

The end of one journey creates the opportunity for a new beginning of another. It just might be the case with Ravichandran Ashwin.
In a surprising move on Wednesday, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Ashwin thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the IPL for all the “wonderful memories” and relationships built over the years.
The veteran cricketer had an illustrious 16-season career as a journeyman, playing for multiple teams.
The Chennai-born Ashwin began his IPL career as part of the Chennai Super Kings and concluded his stint in the IPL representing his home franchise, marking a full-circle moment for the veteran.
But, Ashwin might just not be walking into the sunset away from cricket as is, as his wife, Prithi Narayanan, hinted at the possibility of seeing the veteran spinner in a new light in her heartfelt farewell post.
“I love you! @rashwin99 Can’t wait to see you do new things and scale new heights,” Prithi posted.
Ashwin To Take His Talents To The Hundred?
Ashwin is reportedly ‘keen’ to become the first Indian men’s player to feature in The Hundred, England’s premier 100-ball/side competition. According to The Telegraph, the Indian plans to play in several leagues around the world, and The Hundred is one of them, starting as soon as the next season.
The report comes only hours after Ashwin announced his retirement from IPL, meaning he would not be playing any non-domestic cricket in India anymore. BCCI’s rules are clear in this regard: any active men’s cricketer can’t participate in leagues around the world, which is designed to protect the exclusivity of the IPL.
Ashwin’s retirement opens up the door for him to play in The Hundred and any other league of his choosing.
