The manufacturing sector grows at 5.4% in July 2025.

The country’s factory output, based on the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), records growth of 3.5% in July 2025, driven by 5.4% growth in the manufacturing sector, according to the latest official data released on Thursday, August 2025. The IIP growth had stood at 1.5% in the previous month of June 2025.

The country’s industrial output earlier recorded this level of growth at 3.9 per cent in March 2025. It had expanded by five per cent in July 2024.

“Driven by 5.4% growth in manufacturing sector, Index of Industrial Production (IIP) recorded a 3.5% year-on-year growth in July 2025,” the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation said in a statement.

Mining production contracted by 7.2 per cent against a growth of 3.8 per cent recorded a year ago. Power production rose by a meagre 0.6 per cent in July 2025 against 7.9 per cent in the year-ago period.

During the April-July period of FY26, the country’s total industrial production grew by 2.3 per cent compared to 5.4 per cent a year ago.

The latest NSO data showed that the manufacturing sector’s output growth rose to 5.4 per cent in July 2025 from 4.7 per cent in the year-ago month.

Within the manufacturing sector, 14 out of 23 industry groups at NIC 2 digit-level have recorded a positive growth in July 2025 over July 2024.

The top three positive contributors for the month of July 2025 are ‘Manufacture of basic metals’ (12.7%), ‘Manufacture of electrical equipment’ (15.9%) and ‘Manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products’ (9.5%), the official data showed.

In the industry group ‘Manufacture of basic metals’, item groups ‘MS slabs’, ‘HR coils and sheets of mild steel’ and ‘Flat products of Alloy Steel’ have shown significant contribution in growth, it said.

In the industry group ‘Manufacture of electrical equipment’, item groups ‘Electric heaters’, ‘Electrical apparatus for switching or protecting electrical circuits (e.g switchgear, circuit breakers/switches, control/ meter panel)’, and ‘Transformers (Small)’ have shown significant contribution in growth, the minister added.

“In the industry group ‘Manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products’ item groups ‘Cement- all types’, ‘Cement Clinkers’ and ‘Marble slab polished or not’ have shown significant contribution in growth,” according to the statement.
