R Ashwin IPL Retirement News: Legendary Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who played nine matches in IPL 2025 for Chennai Super Kings, took to X on Wednesday (August 27) to confirm his retirement from the cash-rich league.
“Special day and hence a special beginning. They say every ending will have a new start, my time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today. Would like to thank all the franchisees for all the wonderful memories and relationships over the years and most importantly the @IPL and the @BCCI for what they have given me until now. Look forward to enjoying and making the most of what’s ahead of me #cricketforlife,” Ashwin tweeted.
Ashwin made his debut in the IPL during the second season (in 2009) and since then has played a total of 221 matches for five teams – Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Super Giants, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals.
In 221 IPL matches, Ashwin picked up 187 wickets and scored 833 runs with an average of 13.01.
