The new ferry service will operate between Mumbai’s Bhaucha Dhakka (Princess Dock) and the ports of Jaigad in Ratnagiri and Vijaydurg in Sindhudurg. With the new route, the journey time is expected to reduce to just 3 hours for Jaigad and 5 hours for Vijaydurg, compared to the 10–12 hours it typically takes by road.
The vessel, operated by M2M Ferries, can accommodate up to 50 four-wheelers, 30 two-wheelers, and several mini buses, making it ideal for both individual travellers and families seeking seamless onward journeys with their own vehicles.

Pricing for all travellers
The fare structure has been designed to cater to a wide range of budgets. Economy Class tickets for passengers begin at ₹2,500, while First Class seating is priced at ₹9,000. Travellers bringing their own vehicles will need to pay ₹6,000 for cars, ₹1,000 for two-wheelers, and ₹600 for bicycles. These inclusive rates aim to provide flexibility and convenience, especially for families travelling together and planning longer stays in the Konkan region.

All 147 permissions secured
Fisheries and Port Development Minister Nitesh Rane called the launch a major milestone in Maharashtra’s coastal development strategy. “All 147 permissions have been secured, and the ferry has been implemented with world-class safety standards,” he said. The minister highlighted that the service will ease travel for lakhs of Konkan residents and tourists, particularly during festive seasons when the Mumbai-Goa highway becomes notoriously congested.
Expansion plans already underway
The Mumbai-Konkan ferry builds on the success of the existing Mumbai-Mandwa (Alibaug) Ro-Ro service, which has become a preferred mode of transport for weekend travellers. That route, which takes just over an hour, significantly cuts down the travel time compared to the three-hour drive, while allowing passengers to bring their cars and bikes along.
According to Minister Rane, this is just the beginning. Plans are already in motion to expand the network to include additional stops such as Shrivardhan and Mandwa. A longer-term vision includes a direct ferry link from Mumbai to Goa — offering a faster, scenic, and stress-free alternative to the road journey.
A game-changer for Konkan
For residents of Konkan region, the ferry marks a long-awaited transformation in connectivity. With better access to Mumbai, the new route is expected to spur not only tourism but also trade, while providing a convenient option for thousands returning to their native villages during festivals.
The Ro-Ro initiative is part of a broader push by the Maharashtra government to modernise transport infrastructure and reduce road congestion, particularly along the busy coastal corridors.
As the first journey approaches, anticipation is building among regular travellers and tourists with many seeing the service as a new initiative for regional travel along Maharashtra’s picturesque coastline.
