Central Zone faces off against North East Zone in the second quarterfinal of the Duleep Trophy 2025 at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground B in Bengaluru from Thursday, August 28. The knock-out clash will be played to determine which team from the initial round of India’s zonal first-class competition will join the winner of the other quarterfinal between North Zone and East Zone and qualify for the semifinals stage, for which the BCCI had provided West Zone and South Zone a direct seeding.
The Duleep Trophy returns to its zonal version after last season’s arrangement, where the national selectors had picked the best first-class talent in the country in a four-team tournament. The knock-out competition, however, will not be short of some eye-catching talent and performances, featuring the best red-ball players in respective zones.
For Central Zone, India’s backup Test wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel had been handed the captaincy of the side, while North East selectors picked Rongsen Jonathan for leadership duties. The tournament provides players an opportunity to get into red-ball rhythms ahead of the Ranji Trophy, which then gives them the best chance to perform and stake claim a selection for India A and potentially, the Indian Test team.
