Aaryavir Sehwag, son of legendary Virender Sehwag, on Wednesday made his Delhi Premier League (DPL) debut for Central Delhi Kings. Just like his father, the 17-year-old walked out as an opener and showcased the flair in his batting.

Aaryavir replaced Yash Dhull in the line-up as the latter has flown to Bengaluru to represent North Zone in the Duleep Trophy 2025. Sehwag had a cautious start, going off the mark on the 4th delivery. But soon he shifted gears and hammered back-to-back boundaries to Navdeep Saini.

In the third over, Aaryavir hit Saini for a four through deep extra-cover. The next delivery, he stepped down and smashed the ball between extra cover and long-off for a second consecutive boundary.

The teenager treated Rounak Waghela in a similar fashion, smashing back-to-back boundaries in the 4th over. But unfortunately, he was dismissed a couple of deliveries later and walked back after scoring a quick-fire 22 off 16.

Aaryavir is in the squad of the Central Delhi Kings for the second season of the Delhi Premier League, while Virender Sehwag’s younger son Vedant is in the West Delhi Lions team.

In a recent interaction with Delhi Capitals, Aaryavir spoke about his father’s achievements and how he looks at it, now that he is a professional cricketer too, days after the former was heard joking on commentary that both his sons don’t care a lot about what he says.

“As I am playing professional cricket for two to three years, I am understanding what kind of a cricketer my dad was. So, earlier, dad would say, ghar ki murgi daal baraabar (being taken for granted), but it is not like that,” Aaryavir said.

Having made his ODI debut against Pakistan in April 1999, Sehwag first played at No. 7. Although his first three ODI innings didn’t get results, he scored a half-century against Australia in Bengaluru in March 2001. He finished his ODI career with 8273 runs in 245 matches, at an average of 35, with 15 hundreds to his name.
