The Prime Minister visited the newly built Jessore Road Metro Station. From there, he flagged off the Noapara–Jai Hind Bimanbandar metro service on the Yellow Line. He also undertook a ride from Jessore Road Metro Station to Jai Hind Bimanbandar and back.
Through video conferencing, the Prime Minister flagged off the Sealdah-Esplanade metro service and the Beleghata-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay metro service.
Speaking at the inauguration, he said, “As India moves towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy, cities like Dum Dum and Kolkata will play a pivotal role in this journey.”

With the launch of these new stretches, metro services in Kolkata have expanded significantly. Now, trains will run on three important stretches:
* Noapara to Jai Hind Bimanbandar (Yellow Line)
* Howrah Maidan to Salt Lake Sector V (Green Line)
* Kavi Subhash to Beleghata (Orange Line)
According to The Indian Express, metro authorities will operate a total of 366 trains daily across these corridors.
Green Line: Howrah Maidan to Salt Lake Sector V
On the Green Line, 186 services will run daily from Monday to Saturday. This includes 93 trains from each end. Services will be available at eight-minute intervals.
The first train from Howrah Maidan will depart at 6:30 am, while the first train from Salt Lake Sector V will leave at 6:32 am. The last trains will leave at 9:45 pm and 9:47 pm, respectively.
On Sundays, 104 services will be operational, with trains available at 15-minute intervals. The first train on Sundays will start at 9:00 am, and the last will depart at 9:45 pm, the Indian Express reported.
Orange Line: Kavi Subhash to Beleghata
On this stretch, 60 services will be available daily from Monday to Friday. There will be 30 trains in each direction. Services will run at 25-minute intervals. The first train from both Kavi Subhash and Beleghata will depart at 8:00 am. The last train will leave at 8:05 pm. No services will run on Saturdays and Sundays.
Yellow Line: Noapara to Jai Hind Bimanbandar
On the Yellow Line, 120 services will operate daily from Monday to Friday. There will be 60 trains from each end. Trains will run at intervals of 10-15 minutes.
The first trains from Noapara and Jai Hind Bimanbandar will start at 7:58 am. The last trains will depart at 8:00 pm. Services will not be available on Saturdays and Sundays.
The opening of these lines marks a big step for the city’s transport infrastructure. The metro will reduce travel time, ease congestion, and connect key parts of Kolkata more efficiently.
