Gmail users are being warned about new sophisticated AI-powered threats that can be used to control their account, which means all your digital existence. Google is sharing some worrying details about how AI is becoming their favourite weapon especially when their work becomes easy and their targets are there to dupe.

These attacks may sound advanced but the mode is as simple as making a call to the individual, disguised as a Google support executive which even includes a follow-up mail so that people don’t get suspicious.

You Have A Gmail AI Warning: How These Attacks Happen

People use Gmail for pretty much all their digital accounts. And any gateway for these hackers to get hold of the personal details spells trouble. Google’s mailing app caters to over 2 billion users across the globe, making it a prime target for these new-age cyber attacks.

We have seen people getting suspicious mails, with messages like, ‘Your account has been compromised’ which gets them nervous, and makes them do unconventional things. When you click on any link attached to these mails, the hacker has opened the backdoor which allows them to further infiltrate into your system.

These hackers then get you to connect with the Google support team, and that’s where the scary future of AI attacks come into play. These calls are made by the AI-powered system, and it is easy to fall for these for many.

We have seen the impact of AI-based vishing (voice phishing) attacks on WhatsApp where people are getting duped into sending money or personal data. Gmail is the obvious hub for these attacks, and now it is getting serious.

Since we use Gmail as the one-stop ID for all our digital profiles and storage accounts, the people targeting these victims know that one access opens the whole pandora box in the worst way possible.

Google’s best advice to keep the Gmail account safe is to:

  • Never click on links or open attachments from suspicious mails
  • Regularly change your password to avoid account breach
  • Use authenticator apps to protect your accounts
  • Passkeys are also a good way to secure the access

Security experts have been warning us about the new-age AI threat on cyber attacks and Gmail is one of the first to receive the attention with many more likely to be targeted in the near future.
