Gut health is crucial for overall wellness and glowing skin.

When it comes to glowing skin, most people turn to serums, facials, or expensive treatments. But actress Tamannaah Bhatia believes the real secret lies deeper – within the gut. In a recent interview, she revealed that her personal struggles with food intolerances had been the turning point in her health and beauty journey.

“For the longest time, I didn’t know I was gluten and dairy intolerant,” Tamannaah Bhatia shared candidly in a chat with The Lallantop. After trying countless diets, she finally realised that eliminating certain foods improved her skin dramatically.

“I also found out through trial and error, by trying so many kinds of diets. And then I realised, oh, if I don’t eat gluten, my skin does well. So, it is important to first be aware of your body and understand what is going on in your body. Skin is nothing but a reflection of what is going inside your body anyway,” she explained.

Understanding Gluten Intolerance

Gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye, gives dough its elasticity and bread its texture. “It is not without reason that gluten is called so; it gets its name from the glue-like texture it offers with wet dough,” she said.

For people with gluten intolerance, the body struggles to absorb nutrients due to damaged villi (tiny projections in the small intestine that aid digestion). This can lead to both physical and emotional symptoms.

Common symptoms include:

  • Skin flare-ups like rashes or redness
  • Digestive problems such as bloating, diarrhoea, or constipation
  • Fatigue, weight fluctuations, or nutrient deficiencies
  • Migraines, mood swings, or poor concentration

Tamannaah’s journey offers practical lessons for anyone facing unexplained skin or health issues:

Listen to your body: If certain foods make you feel bloated, tired, or break out, note the pattern.

Seek professional help: Nutritionists and doctors can recommend allergy tests or elimination diets.

Don’t rely only on skincare: Topical creams may help temporarily, but lasting skin health begins in the gut.

Try mindful eating: Avoid processed foods, eat whole grains, and stay hydrated to support digestion.

Be patient: As Tamannaah discovered, figuring out intolerances takes time and experimentation.

Her experience proved that beauty and wellness are deeply intertwined. By connecting skin health with gut balance, Tamannaah reminded us that glowing skin isn’t just about external care. It’s also about understanding what fuels your body from within.
