WhatsApp calls over satellite is not available with any device, not even the iPhones but Google is offering it with the new Pixel 10.

WhatsApp calls over satellite come to the new Pixel 10
Google’s new Pixel 10 phones are getting support for WhatsApp calls via satellite. Yes, the company’s new flagship devices are the first to let you make video and voice calls using the messaging app through a satellite network. Calls and messages working over satellite are not new but nobody has offered this for WhatsApp and Google is now going to become the first brand to have it available later this month.
The news has been confirmed with an official post from Google on X which even shows a clip of WhatsApp calls going through without any network.
WhatsApp Calls Over Satellite: This Is Big
The post from Google says the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro and the other two models in the series will get WhatsApp calls over satellite from August 28, 2025. The service will be locked to mobile carriers who offer satellite networks, and we expect Google will have it available in the US initially.
The post also shows us a clip of the WhatsApp call going through on a Pixel 10 phone over satellite network. As you can see in the clip, there is a satellite icon instead of the mobile bars or Wi-Fi, which indicates it is running via satellite connectivity.
The post with the new feature has this text mentioned at the bottom, “Service is limited to participating carriers and additional charges may apply. Only on compatible devices in most outdoor areas where you can see the sky.” Google is only talking about calls working on WhatsApp with this update and no mention of messages going through.
And because you are not on a mobile network, using WhatsApp calls over satellite on these Pixel 10 phones will be chargeable. More importantly, it seems Google is going to work with select partners to make this feature available, and these details are likely to become clearer later this week when it officially rolls out from the company.
WhatsApp calls get the same level of security with its end-to-end encryption which means nobody, not even WhatsApp can hear the calls. It is possible that the iPhone 17 launch next month could have a similar update from Apple with its own satellite services.
