Indian cricket star Virat Kohli had caused a minor social media storm after an alleged “like” on a fan page post dedicated to actress Avneet Kaur. The incident had happened in Mya earlier this year, and on Monday, actor Avneet Kaur finally addressed the incident.

At the trailer launch event for her film, Avneet was asked about the growing attention and admiration she receives online from prominent figures, with the question clearly alluding to Kohli’s now-famous “like.” Smiling, the actress gave a short but graceful response: “Milta rahe pyaar... Aur kya hi keh sakti hoon (May the love keep coming… what more can I say)”.

The incident first came to light when followers noticed Kohli had liked one of Avneet’s glamorous photos, where she posed in a lime green crop top paired with a printed mini skirt. The “like” went viral within minutes, triggering memes, jokes, and even trolling on various platforms. Given Kohli’s stature and personal life, the gesture drew considerable speculation.

Realising the stir, Kohli quickly clarified the situation on Instagram. In his statement, he explained: “I’d like to clarify that while clearing my feed, it appears the algorithm may have mistakenly registered an interaction. There was absolutely no intent behind it. I request that no unnecessary assumptions be made. Thank you for your understanding.”

However, his explanation only fuelled more chatter online, with some refusing to believe it was merely a glitch.

When Will Kohli Next Play For India?

Kohli had stunned fans in May 2025 when he announced his retirement from the longest format just before India’s much-anticipated five-match Test series against England.

The retirement call followed his earlier exit from T20 internationals. After lifting the 2024 T20 World Cup in the Caribbean, Kohli decided it was the perfect time to step aside from the shortest format.

His sudden departure has left India in a transitional phase, especially with ODI cricket also taking a backseat since IPL 2025.

With Kohli now out of both T20Is and Tests, his focus has shifted to ODIs and will next be seen in action in the three-match ODI series against Australia beginning October 19.

Kolhli’s last international appearance came in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where India ended a 12-year drought by clinching the title against New Zealand at the Dubai International Stadium.
