From just one or two startups in 2014, India’s space sector now boasts over 350 startups engaged in satellite launches, data services, and advanced space technologies. Companies such as Skyroot, Agnikul, Pixxel, Dhruva, and Digantara are driving innovation in launch vehicles, satellite systems, and Earth observation, signaling the sector’s growing maturity and global competitiveness.

The National Space Meet 2.0, organized by ISRO at Bharat Mandapam as part of the 2nd National Space Day celebrations, highlighted this dramatic transformation. The event brought together government ministries, state authorities, private sector players, academia, and experts to chart the next decade of India’s space applications roadmap, aiming to leverage space technology for governance, socio-economic development, and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Chief guest Shri P.K. Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, praised the startups for creating a scalable, innovative ecosystem. He noted that reforms such as spectrum allocation, venture capital support, and technology transfer have empowered private players to contribute actively to India’s space missions. Shri Mishra also emphasized integrating emerging technologies like AI, quantum computing, and big data analytics into satellite systems.

Shri V. Narayanan, ISRO Chairman, outlined ambitious targets for the coming decade, including tripling operational satellites, expanding Earth Observation and SATNAV services, and positioning India among the top global space powers by 2040. Shri Pawan Goenka, Chairman, IN-SPACe, stressed the importance of a “Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Nation” approach, where startups collaborate with ministries, states, and academia to co-create practical solutions.
